The Golden Sanctuary of Hussainabad: Jama Masjid
Towering over the bustling lanes of Daulatganj with its luminous ochre domes and slender minarets, the Jama Masjid of Lucknow is one of the most serene examples of sacred Awadhi architecture. Begun in 1839 by King Mohammad Ali Shah, it was designed to outshine the imperial Jama Masjid of Delhi in scale and delicacy.
Architectural Splendor & Stucco Frescoes
Resting on an elevated square plinth with broad flights of steps, the mosque features 15 cusped prayer arches supported by 260 fluted pillars. The three colossal bulbous domes are crowned with gilded finials, and the inner mihrab is decorated with exquisite calligraphy and lapis lazuli inlays.
