An Exotic Architectural Gem: Butler Palace
Tucked inside the upscale Butler Colony adjacent to the Lucknow Zoo, Butler Palace is a dramatic departure from Lucknow's conventional Indo-Islamic stucco monuments. Built in 1915 by the aristocratic Raja of Mahmudabad, this magnificent four-sided palace showcases the royal stone craftsmanship of Rajasthan transplanted onto Awadhi soil.
Intricate Jharokhas & Symmetrical Courtyards
Featuring carved sandstone cornices, detailed lattice screens, and projecting balconies, Butler Palace was initially envisioned as a triple-winged palace, though only the central block was completed due to river floods. The palace overlooks a large rectangular reservoir that once mirrored its elegant stone facade.
