The Renaissance of Spoken Elegance: Dastangoi in Lucknow
Before cinema, radio, or printed novels took over human imagination, the courtyards and tea stalls of Chowk were held spellbound by master storytellers known as Dastangos. Dressed in pristine white chikan kurtas and sitting cross-legged on white bolsters, they wove epic tapestries of warfare, sorcery (Tilism), romance, and adventure.
Today, Dastangoi has seen an astonishing global revival, with young artists breathing modern life into ancient tales at cultural festivals and literary gatherings across Lucknow.
